Anyone can apply for a Critical illness cover.
It could help financially if you do not have enough money saved to fall back on in the event that you fall ill unexpectedly, or if your employer doesn’t offer an employment benefits package to cover periods of unemployment due to sickness.
This pays a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a life threatening or life changing illness. This can be used to pay off or towards your mortgage, be used for private treatment, second medical opinions or simply to have additional funds available should you need them.
Claims are dominated by the “big three;” Stroke, heart attack and cancer. There are also many other conditions covered under a CIC plan, such as children’s cover, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
Not everyone will be accepted for a critical illness plan, pre-existing and existing medical conditions may reduce your chances of being accepted. Exclusions and rating to premiums may also be applied but this depends on full disclosure and underwriting of your personal circumstances.
