There are 3 levels of cover that providers offer:

  • Basic
  • Mid-range
  • Comprehensive

What does UK private medical insurance cover?

Basic:

Inpatient treatment (when you stay in hospital)

Mid-range:

Inpatient treatment

Outpatient treatment (where you don’t need an overnight stay)

Consultation appointment, diagnostics tests, physiotherapy and sometimes psychiatry

 

Comprehensive:

Inpatient and Outpatient treatment

Home nursing

Private Ambulance

Dental treatment

Alternative medicines

Basic and Mid-range cover typically has limits on:

  • The number of treatments you can have in a year.
  • Less choice on the hospitals you can use.
  • Ambulance transport.
