You can apply for a critical illness plan if you have a mental health disclosure.

However, most standard critical illness policies will not pay out for less severe mental health claim as this condition is not defined to be a critical illness. There are upgraded options that offer cover for some disclosures such as Psychosis and bipolar affective-disorder.

The 3 biggest health conditions covered under a CIC policy are Heart Attack, Stroke and Cancer.

Critical illness cover supports you financially if you’re diagnosed with one of the conditions included in the policy. The tax-free, one-off payment helps pay for your treatment, mortgage, rent or changes to your home, such as wheelchair access, should you need it.

Mental health is covered under an income protection plan, although if you apply for IP and have a disclosure for mental health this may be excluded from the policy and will not pay out if you tried to make a claim again this.
