Mortgage with a CCJ
Can I still get a mortgage if I have a CCJ?
Yes, you can still get a mortgage with a county court judgment. You may not fit the profile for some of the mainstream high street lenders – we may need a more specialist adverse credit lender. But they will absolutely consider your application.
We need to look at when the CCJ was registered, whether it’s satisfied, the size of it and your overall credit profile. That will include your income, deposit, age and other credit issues.
What mortgage lenders accept CCJs? Do they all accept them?
Sadly not. But we do have lenders in this marketplace who understand that CCJs are often part of a journey.
If you’ve had a credit blip like a county court judgment, the idea is always to try to get back into the high street as quickly as we can. Called adverse or specialist lenders, their job is to help people get their credit profiles back to a stage where they meet the high street banks’ requirements.
Can I get a mortgage with a satisfied CCJ?
Yes. Having a credit blip is not always ideal – but there can be all sorts of circumstances involved. If you pay back the person or organisation you’re in debt to, it shows you’ve understood what’s happened and you’re rectifying the problem.
Lenders see that as very positive. When they lend to you, the whole premise is that they get their money back. We will always encourage clients to pay back a CCJ where they can.

Affinity is a mortgage broker, an insurance adviser, a commercial loans expert but more than this, we’re a great bunch of people.
Does the date of my CCJ matter for a mortgage?
It absolutely does. If you’ve had a CCJ registered in the last six months, it’s very tricky to find a lender to accept that. If they do, it can be costly.
From six to 12 months onwards is the ideal timeframe. That’s when we can find you the mortgage you want.
Does the size of the CCJ affect my mortgage application?
Sadly, yes. Lenders set limits around what they will accept, and these vary depending on the lender and their risk appetite.
We will explore those and confirm how much they will charge for the additional risk they are taking on. That’s where we really come to the fore, in comparing the options for you.
Can mortgage lenders see a CCJ after six years?
No. CCJs automatically drop off your credit file after a six year period, even if they’re not paid off. So that’s good news.
How do I find out if I have a CCJ?
We always recommend that customers check their credit report. It’s a bit like an x-ray of your finances. It’s an important thing to do when you’re looking at any type of credit, because then you’ll know what the lenders are going to see.
There are three main UK credit agencies: Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. That’s who the majority of lenders use as we speak today in November 2025. We encourage our clients to look at those where possible.
How can a mortgage broker help me find a mortgage with a CCJ?
We provide a safe place to talk about this stuff. People can be embarrassed that these things have happened, but it’s very normal. Life happens, and that’s okay.
Secondly, we can identify the lenders and cut through that noise really quickly to find a lender who’s suitable for each client’s specific situation.
We’re very understanding and we want the same things our clients do. It’s in our interest to deliver a positive outcome every time, or work towards that outcome in the future.
